I love the idea that a song can encapsulate everything. A particular lyric might stick with me for a week, becoming a personal mantra for a while. Or maybe its just that one synth sound in a song that pleases my ears. In May, I was listening to new and old music alike. Thinking about the past and the present.
Hold Me Down- Mansionair
The plucking guitar and warbling synth made the perfect combination for the beginning of the month.
Six Degrees of Separation- The Script
I must confess. I've been obsessed with The Script since I went to their Sydney concert at the beginning of May. They put on an amazing show. I could not get over the quality of their performance as well as the amount of fan service in the show. Towards the end of the concert, we started playing the 'Oh where will they appear next' game. My favourite answer is still, "They'll descend from the Allphones Arena roof and fly across the length of the arena."
The crowd was electric during this song and hearing 21,000 strangers scream out the six degrees of separation is something I won't forget for a very long time.
You're No One 'Til Someone Lets You Down- John Mayer
Another oldie, but a goodie. John Mayer brings so much calming thoughts to my life that even when he's trying to tell me essentially we're not worth anything until someone disappoints us, I'd happily accept that idea and go back to sipping my tea.
I Wanna Get Better- Bleachers
The anthemic 80s pop sound is getting a resurgence. This song makes me want to zoom down a highway while driving a convertible with the top down screaming out every single word. I think that would be a great experience.
Altruism- Oscar Key Sung
I've recently had a newfound appreciation for electronic music. Particularly, chilled out electronic music. Altruism fits very well into this new genre. It teeters between RnB and indie music, showing off elements of both genres. But what makes the song for me is Oscar Key Sung's voice, it's soothing and reassuring.
World Championships Finale 1- Das Sound Machine
This mashup of Fall Out Boy and DJ Khaled gave me so much life. It was a definite stand out in Pitch Perfect 2.
