Trumped.

From: ABC News

When I went to sleep in the early hours of the 9th of November, Donald Trump was winning the election. The BBC had reassured me that there was still time for Hillary Clinton to turn this around. It was still early, the polls had not closed on the West Coast yet.

9:34am
The room was still dark, curtains drawn.
I fished for my phone charger cable.
Slowly, I reeled in my phone.
The home screen glared at me,
dozens of notifications.
Eyes still blurry, I couldn't make out the words.

9.36am
I put my phone back down
Sleep was tugging for me to return.

9.36am
I snatch up my phone
I remember what I was looking for.

Trump won.

There it was.
This man who had run on a sensationalist platform, with insane policies had been elected by the people of America.

First I was shocked, then I was confused, then baffled, then sad, then angry, sad again, shocked again, angry again, devastated.

I couldn't and still can't wrap my head around why and how the people of America thought Donald Trump, a business man who has had no experience in public affairs and policies got elected over an individual who has spent the majority of her life serving the American people.

Perhaps this is the wake up call the USA needs to get their act together. Maybe its a sign that there is a large disenfranchised segment of the population. It's not fair to say that the Democrats are the 'good' party and the Republicans are the 'wrong' party. The world isn't cut out like this. Throughout the campaigning process Hillary Clinton was often presented as the 'hero' or the 'right' person to lead the country while Donald Trump was cast as the villain.
Here's the thing; some people do root for the villain because people have already given up on them. They have nothing to lose. They're willing to go to extremes to get their message across and effect change, no matter if its good or bad.

We can be angry about the outcome of the election but I think it's also important to keep a level head and be active participants in the world of politics. Yes, Donald Trump has said and done despicable things. His public appearances and statements have shown that he is not an ideal role model for anyone but the future is not set in stone. Let's judge him by what his actions now, while keeping in mind the things he has done in the past.
Let's not blindly condemn everything he's going to do before he's had a chance to speak about it, because then we'd be no better than him and his supporters.
Keep community ties strong, look after your friends, maintain your morals and values.

Because to me, the one thing more frightening than a Trump presidency is a divided, angry America and by extension the world.
